Family Law Report
Family law at Ballarat and Grampians Community Legal Service has been an exciting and rewarding experience for me since I came on board in May this year! I have had the opportunity to help people with different needs and have been able to be able to help those who are so vulnerable.
I can recall a client of mine was unable to speak English and through an interpreter, I was able to find her a lawyer who could better serve her needs. She was very grateful for the assistance and was reluctant to leave the service.
I have assisted clients who still suffer from the effects of family violence and this is something that is very prevalent in family law matters that I deal with. I have been lucky to have such valuable assistance from Annica Akerfelt and Erin Fradd who have been able to provide insight into current family violence issues and together, we have all been able to provide our clients with a strong well co ordinated team.
While COVID-19 has changed the way we have provided family law duty services, we are still present despite a reduced uptake by clients. We anticipate that the level of uptake of these duty lawyer services will resume when Court comes back in a physical sense.
We have also had a presence with Parent Place being a very important aspect of getting family law advice out to clients and we look forward to the resumption of these services once the COVID restrictions ease.
